Rainbow Giving Australia is an ambitious LGBTQIA+ community foundation that supports community-led solutions by mobilising funding, growing skills, and expanding the knowledge base about the funding needs across the Australian LGBTQIA+ sector.
-
Rainbow Giving Australia is transforming LGBTQIA+ funding. We bridge the gap for underfunded not-for-profit organisations and initiatives, and in our first year, we will distribute over $1 million through Amplify Pride and Ignite Pride Grants, and GiveOUT Day. As Australia’s first organisation of its kind, we leverage extensive networks—including high-net-worth donors, corporate allies, and emerging changemakers—to power community-led solutions across the country.
-
We’ve merged to help us supercharge our ability to support rainbow communities. Over the past 25 years, Aurora and GiveOUT paved the way for a better funded sector, investing in community-led solutions to the most pressing issues facing our communities. In 2020, the year before we started collaborating formally, we collectively raised and distributed $226,690 for rainbow communities. This year, after just 4 years of collaborating, we will distribute $1 million, over four times this amount. In joining forces, we harness our extensive industry networks and leadership, elevating our impact on a national scale. Together, we can do so much more.
Our collaboration on the “Where Are The Rainbow Resources” research report, and the subsequent establishment of the Amplify Pride Fund is further proof that we are stronger together. The Amplify Pride Fund has distributed over $450,000 in only two years, and was the winner of Philanthropy Australia’s Community Philanthropy Award.
For Rainbow Giving Australia, uniting is about walking the talk - we saw an opportunity to merge as one that will bring more crucial dollars to our communities, and we're all about that. Together, we are better positioned to empower more Australian LGBTQIA+ communities than ever before.
-
Recognising our shared vision, successful track record of collaboration, and urgent need to maximise resources for the sector, the decision was made following an extensive due diligence process, that demonstrated that the merger would be in the best interests of both organisations and the sector at large.
-
The time to think and act big is now! Despite progress, LGBTQIA+ communities continue to face systemic barriers to equality, particularly trans and gender diverse communities, intersex communities and LGBTQIA+ communities that experience intersectional marginalisation or discrimination, including First Nations people, people of colour, people with disability, people living in regional and rural areas, and LGBTQIA+ elders and youth. This merger is a bold step to break down those barriers and drive real change.
-
The merger will allow us to streamline our operations and enhance the extent of our support, ultimately benefiting the community by providing more comprehensive support, more innovative funding programs, and improved resource allocation.
-
We’re keeping the magic alive! The Aurora Ball, GiveOUT Day, and the Amplify Pride and Ignite Pride Grants aren’t going anywhere. We’re committed to honouring the legacy and success of Aurora and GiveOUT by continuing all four of these iconic campaigns, ensuring they remain pillars of support and celebration for our communities.
-
We deeply value our partners and collaborators, and will work to maintain and strengthen these relationships. The merger also provides opportunities to enhance our collaborative efforts and create new partnerships that align with our goals. 17 staff and board contributors formed to create eight workstreams to execute 200+ integration tasks with over 40+ meeting hours in 2024. Teams from three pro bono agencies including legal and branding also extensively contributed.

Leonard Vary - CEO Sidney Myer
“At a time when philanthropic giving to LGBTQIA+ organisations, groups and initiatives remains a tiny fraction of total philanthropic giving in this country, and when the need to support the equality of the rainbow community in all its glorious diversity remains imperative, the Sidney Myer Fund is excited and proud to celebrate the launch of Rainbow Giving Australia… Rainbow Giving Australia brings together GiveOUT and Aurora’s formidable strengths to create an inspired and inspiring new organisation. Sidney Myer Fund is a proud supporter of Rainbow Giving Australia and looks forward to seeing its impact in years to come.
Jane Marsden - Aurora Group founder, inaugural RGA Member
“It is with gratitude and hope that I support our newly formed national LGBTQIA+ charity, Rainbow Giving Australia. Rainbow Giving has been born to address far reaching inequities in our communities that were revealed in “Where are the Rainbow Resources”. That research revealed serious underfunding and understaffing of LGBTQI+ community organisations across Australia. RGA intends to redress those inequities.
