National LGBTQIA+ Sector Capacity Report.

In 2024, Pride by Side conducted a national survey, Pointing to Progress, to better understand the capacity needs and gaps within the LGBTQIA+ sector. 

Many organisations, initiatives, and projects are working towards improving the lives of queer people and communities. We know there are capacity gaps, but without robust data, we can't be sure to what extent.

The report found: 

  • 53% of LGBTQIA+ initiatives have insufficient resources and capacity to achieve their strategic goals.

  • 52% operate on an annual budget of less than $25,000. 

  • The median number of paid, full-time staff in LGBTQIA+ initiatives is zero. 

  • 94% of initiatives identify the need for greater capacity and support to build capacity.
